T-shirts designed as a call-to-action for Davidson Athletics.

Brief: During the fall of 2020, the women’s Track & Field team at Davidson approached me about designing a t-shirt that addressed anti-racism and social justice, meanwhile standing in solidarity with those who have lost their lives due to police brutality. I worked on this project in collaboration with Marquia Humphries, a studio art major at Davidson.

Challenges: Instead of using the phrase “Black Lives Matter,” they wanted a phrase that was personal to the Davidson Community. Additionally, the shirts had to fit into Davidson’s brand guidelines.

Solution: We coined the phrase “Change is Rooted in Accountability,” which was placed on the front of the shirt. This phrase is essential as much of the Davidson Community is homogeneous and of high socio-economic status, therefore accountability holds so much value. On the back of the shirt, there are five phrases that call the community to action and speak to challenges they have faced. The colorway of the shirt, as well as the branding (under armor) fit into the school’s guidelines.
