Brief: The Sage School, located in Hailey, ID, is a private school serving students grades 6-12. The principal and founder of the school, Harry Weekes, was seeking an icon to represent their mascot the Sage Grouse.

Challenges: The Sage Grouse is not known for being the most visually appealing bird. However, the founder loved that the bird is native to the area and its non-traditional look.

Solution: Using simple shapes to create the bird allowed me to make something that both looks interesting and evokes the essence of the bird, meanwhile maintaining visual appeal. The bird is intended to look stoic, yet friendly with an emphasis on its defining characteristics.
